Presenting my daughter, the Sophomore Class President!!

Tuesday was a very big day in our family. Three out of the five of us had exceptional things happen:

1. Alissa was officially elected Sophomore Class President for the 2009-2010 school year.

This year she has made friends with the Class of 2009 President, some "hunky dude" (her words) named Jordan (said with a swoon). She became determined to run for class president of her own class. So, she did. She submitted the paperwork. She endured the election. And she won!

My kid is a rock star!

2. Abigail learned how to ride a 2-wheel bicycle!!

This is VERY big news. To my knowledge, Abby has never even been on a bicycle before. So Tuesday night I leave home for literally 90 minutes for an Army family meeting, and Jon comes home to tag team and "..to help the kids with homework while I'm out." Instead, Abby learns a new skill. I am literally here 24/7, and the 2 hours that I'm gone she learns how to ride a bike? And, as you'll see in the video (that thankfully they shot so Mom wouldn't miss this momentous occasion), she does it with no one holding onto the back of the bike.

My kid is a rock star!

3. On Monday (President's Day), Jon and a colleague, with 20,000 others, ran in the Great Aloha Run.

It's an annual 8.5 mile run/walk for charity. On Tuesday, we found out that he placed in the top 1/3 of run times for his age group. He ran in 1:18:xx, which is an average of 9 1/2 minute miles. He was so proud, and I am so proud. Here's a picture of him crossing the finish line...

My husband is a rock star!

He is fairly addicted now. He has already signed up for another race, this one 6.5 miles, in early April. And, I am considering signing up too. (I can't run as fast as Jon, and I won't even try, but the idea of completing a race is sort of exciting to me. I think I might actually be able to do it...)

So, Alex and I didn't have any life-changing events of our own that day. But, we will have some in the near future, I am certain. And we are certainly proud of our family members for their feats.

Happy Weekend Everyone!

You are all rock stars! I'm so proud of all of you, your dedication to one and other and all of the sacrifices that you make every day. Yesterday, Ellie was asking me about "army guys". I think because she knows that they have guns that they are "bad guys". I explained to her that in fact anyone who serves in the Army is a hero and that they carry guns to keep all of us safe from the bad guys who also had guns. Her next question was do "army guys" wear capes. Apparently when I said hero she thought "super hero" and they all wear capes when they fight the bad guys. Our conversation was enlightening and funny but it ended with me thinking of Jon all masculine walking around the house with exagurated posture, hands on hips wearing a camo cape! You need to get him one of those...

From Army Jon the superhero in the camo cape....NOT! The only way I will get one and wear it, is if Christy does it first and posts it to Facebook and on Tiffany's blog....HA!HA!HA!

Jon, my friend, you under estimate how much I care about what people think of me. It might take me a couple of days, but I'll get it done. ;-)

ps ellie was asking more army guy questions today...she may be calling you because I have officially run out of answers.

Oh Christy (it's Tiffany this time), thank you for putting Jon in his place...I enjoyed that comment, and Jon even chuckled...I have some camo fabric in the garage, I think a "project" may be in order... :-)

I haven't finished reading yet - - had to comment on Alissa's election! Woooohoooo! way to go! That is so awesome!

O.k. now I read the rest - - but will have to go back for the video. Way to go Abby on the bike! Wooohooo! How exciting.

Tell John congratulations on the run. Dang it, now I'm really going to have to get my butt in gear, I can't have an old friend who had knee surgery run a faster mile time than me. Tell him congratulations (and he'll say I could never run a faster mile time than him -- which was true - -but I once could run faster than 9.5 min per mile) Tiffany, you should sign up for the run in April. You've been running every day you can do it!

I just read Christy's about Jon walking around in a camo cape - - because all heroes wear capes. Well - - the Impossibles didn't because capes seem to get sucked into things.

Side thought - - when are they going to come out with a sequal to that.

Um, but regarding Jon's challenge below - - hmmm -- what if I do that at the National Museum of the Marine Corps? Would you run the entire race with a cape?

ok can I just say that I am a complete blonde - - and I thought coloring my hair red would make me smarter -- its the Incredibles not the Impossibles. I'm laughing at myself right now.

its Jon again, Christy I wouldnt expect anything less from you....just want the pic's to prove the deed so I know what my cape needs to look like HA!HA!HA!HA!

To JZ, dont think I will be running any kind of race in a cape, one its too hot here for that and I wouldnt want to trip over it while I am running HA!HA!HA!HA!

Jon, your mother would love to see you in a cape and running. It would bring back memories you may have forgotten - that age thing, you know. Seriously, way to go for running and finishing as well as you did. I still don't run!

Alissa - congratulations! Way to go! You are showing some great potential for the future.

Abby - you are doing fantastic! Keep practicing and it will get easier. Way to go!

Tiffany and Alex - I know your big moments will be coming too. Alex, you have done Locks of Love twice. That's wonderful. Tiffany - Your writing has earned you many kudos from lots of people. You should try writing for a second profession.

And the next great feat I will do is actually getting this to reply. Every time I try, it fails. So here goes.

Love, Grandma C. (aka: Mom or Carrol)
